If all the new features just aren't enough, check out the Microsoft Plus! for Windows 95. The enhancements and add-ons included require at least a 486 cpu, 8MB of ram, and 256 color video. The features in Plus! were excluded from the basic Windows 95 package to allow it to run on older, slower systems.
So what exactly is in the plus pack? First, there's the Internet Explorer, a web browser based on the NCSA Mosaic browser. This version has been customized for Windows 95 and includes drag and drop support for copying text, images, shortcuts and such to other applications. An internet wizard is also included for those who have trouble setting up the Microsoft TCP/IP. It automatically sets up the stack and the Internet Explorer when Plus! is installed.
Along with the Internet Explorer, Plus! includes System Agent, which automatically performs systems functions such as running scandisk at a particular time every week, or performing disk defragmentation. It also supports DOS command line batch files so you can edit your own tasks.
Other features include DriveSpace 3, a new disk compression program which can compress volumes as large as 2GB. Full window drag (which allows you to see the contents of the window when moving or resizing), font smoothing, and a collection of desktop themes. The themes are just that - a collection of wallpaper, sounds, animated cursors, icons, and screensavers that follow a particular theme such as "Nature" or "Dangerous Creatures" [available for free download - click here to receive it.}
Tired of that old solitare game that came with Windows 3.xx? The Plus Pack has the heir aparrent with 3D Pinball. Great 3D graphics, sound effects, and music. Now if I could only find out how to get them extra balls...
