I hope you have enjoyed this virtual trip down the Tatshenshini as much as
I enjoyed the real thing and putting this album together.
The guidebook: "The Complete Guide to the Tatshenshini River" by Russ
Lyman, Joe Ordonez, and Mike Speaks was newly published in August of 2000. Published
by Cloudburst Productions, Haines AK,
Cloudburst Productions
The photos: Many of these pictures were taken with a digital Nikon Coolpix
800, with little or no Photoshop editing. I also used a trusty old OM-1, and
a Olmpus Stylus Zoom-70 weather proof point and shoot. All of the film shots
required a lot of spiffing up as they were very washed out due to the flat light.
The photos were mainly taken by myself and Craig.
The Trip:This was a private party permitted trip. We did not go with
an outfitter. We brought all our own equipment and figured all of our logistics
out. We went in late August of 2000.
River Flow and Levels: The Tat was at a moderate level, based on our
understanding. The Alsek was very low. One of the Chilkat guides we met on the
river estimated the total combined flow at 40,000 cfs.
Last Word: the only thing I'd add to these notes is that if you have talkabout type FRS radios, they would come in very handy to talk from boat to boat, especially in the braided channel sections
