I am rather new to the fine art of reloading, having begun just three years ago. To date, I have been working on loads for the two guns that I hunt with, the .30-30 and the .300 Win. Magnum. I believe I've found the load for the .30-30 that I'll be using for the long run, but as of yet am unhappy with the groupings I've gotten from the .300 ammo.
For the .30-30, my favorite load is: Either Winchester or Remington case. CCI 200 primer. 32gr. IMR 3031 powder. Speer 150gr. flat nose bullet. I've also experimented with 170gr. bullets, but haven't seen a need yet to switch to them.
For the .300 Win Magnum, I have yet to find a load I consider satisfactory. I believe the problem will be resolved when I switch to the 165gr. bullets that I intend to hunt with. So far, I've been loading with 150gr. Sierra Spitzers, and have become convinced the bullet is just too light. The best 3-shot grouping I've had at 100 yards so far has been just under 2 inches. For those who want all the specs:
Remington case. CCI 200 primer (I know, I know, it's a magnum, I should be using magnum primers). 76gr. 4831 powder. Sierra 150gr. Spitzer bullet. Fired from a Winchester Model 70 DBM-S with a 26" barrel, 1 twist per 10".
After I do more experimenting, I'll put my favorite recipe up for the .300
